Argentina Mint Stamps - Argentina Newest Stamps In 1816, the United Provinces of the Rio Plata declared their independence from Spain. After Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay went their separate ways, the area that remained became Argentina. The country’s population and culture were heavily shaped by immigrants from throughout Europe, but most particularly Italy and Spain. After World War II, an era of Peronist populism and direct and indirect military interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983. Topical stamps are most prevalent in recent Argentine philately. Antarctic exploration has proven to be one of the most popular stamp subjects but so too are all UPAE issues which are a recurring South American stamp theme. Bird semipostals are inexpensive and have remained quite popular over the years. To see the latest Argentina new stamp issues please see the New Issue Listings at Herrick Stamp Company website. |
