Botswana Mint Stamps – Botswana Used Stamps – Botswana Newest Stamps
Formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its new name upon independence in 1966. Four decades of uninterrupted civilian leadership, progressive social policies, and significant capital investment have created one of the most dynamic economies in Africa. Mineral extraction, principally diamond mining, dominates economic activity, though tourism is a growing sector due to the country’s conservation practices and extensive nature preserves.
Diamonds and minerals predominate Botswana stamp issues. Many topical stamps for wild animals and birds are part of long definitive series which are among the most popular in all British Commonwealth stamp collecting.
We visited rural Botswana in 2008 on vacation and found the people, countryside and lifestyle very appealing. The size of France, we flew for an hour and a half without seeing a person, road, telephone line or animal. A big country with few people and a very interesting philatelic history. We recommend the stamps of Botswana quite highly.
