Bangladesh Mint Stamps - Bangladesh Used Stamps - Bangladesh Newest Stamps Europeans set up trading posts in the area of Bangladesh in the 16th century; eventually the British came to dominate the region and it became part of British India. In 1947, West Pakistan and East Bengal (both primarily Muslim) separated from India (largely Hindu) and jointly became the new country of Pakistan. East Bengal became East Pakistan in 1955, but the awkward arrangement of a two-part country with its territorial units separated by 1,600 km left the Bengalis marginalized and dissatisfied. East Pakistan seceded from its union with West Pakistan in 1971 and was renamed Bangladesh. 1971 saw the first Bangladesh stamp issues. Early souvenir sheets were overlooked by collectors and the 1974 UPU souvenir sheets Scott #68A is priced at $110.00. Indeed, dealers in Pakistan and India do not really stock Bangladesh stamps and most are quite hard to find. We believe if you tried to buy ten of each Bangladesh stamp of the last ten years you could not obtain them in the United States. Scott prices are low as is demand. If you need Bangladesh stamps, now is a good time to obtain them as when Scott and other catalogs recognize the scarcity we believe prices will rise.
